Debbie Davis studied the flute at the Royal College of Music at both the Junior and Senior Departments with Graham Mayger and Edward Walker. She also studied privately with Christopher Taylor.
Her first professional appointment on leaving the RCM was with the D’Oyly Carte Opera Company after which she has pursued a successful freelance career playing with many orchestras throughout the country, most recently for the Royal Opera House, BBC Concert Orchestra and the English Chamber Orchestra. She is currently the sub principal and piccolo player for the City of London Sinfonia, a position she has held since 1988, where she is also involved with their many education projects. She started playing with the BPO at the turn of the century when they were performing at Hove Town Hall, during the refurbishment of Brighton Dome.
Teaching positions have included Colchester Institute, Junior Dept of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and has now taught at Surrey University for ten years. Coaching has included the London Schools Symphony Orchestra, Kent County Youth Orchestra and Dartington Summer School. Debbie recently qualified as a teacher of the Alexander Technique which she has found to be an invaluable skill to add to her teaching.
