Andrea took over the position from Nicolas Chisholm at the recent AGM (Sun 1 December 2019).
Having supported the BPO as a Friend for many years, Andrea joined the Board of Trustees in 2017. She says:
“I feel very honoured to take on this role, but I have to admit that I did so somewhat reluctantly, being so conscious of everything Nicolas has done for the Society over his years in post – a hard act to follow! The decision to take on the role was made much easier because of the experienced, knowledgeable and enthusiastic Board and the great administrative team I have around me. I’m particularly pleased to welcome our new Trustees Bob Cook (Honorary Treasurer) and Clare Bowskill (Marketing and Communications).”
Despite a career in science (from academic research, through pharmaceuticals, to medical communications), Andrea has had a lifelong passion for all kinds of music, and plays in a number of local amateur brass and wind bands. She fondly remembers her first BPO concert (3 October 2004) as being:
“a wonderful performance with London Brass joining the orchestra for Janacek’s Sinfonietta – so you can imagine how much I am looking forward to our brass showcase in February.”
Andrea eagerly awaits the rest of the season, and she and the Board are already hard at work on exciting plans for the future as the orchestra approaches its centenary in 2025.
