Barry Wordsworth looks forward to start of new season

Barry Wordsworth, Conductor Laureate of the Brighton Phil, takes charge of the first concert of our new season at Brighton Dome on Sun 14 October joined by Brighton Festival Chorus, and invites you to come along and enjoy some wonderful music:

“I am very much looking forward to seeing you at the Dome on October 14th. It’s an important occasion for three special reasons. Firstly the programme is one I am looking forward to very much. A wonderful mixture of both well-known works alongside works which are less often performed. Secondly it is a celebration of the Brighton Festival Chorus’ 50th birthday, and thirdly it is the opening concert of our new season. Three reasons why you must come and share the fun and excitement.”

Brighton Festival Chorus recently recorded a number of Elgar’s works for choir and orchestra with Barry Wordsworth and the BBC Concert Orchestra, including some of those to be performed at this concert.

Barry says of the Chorus: “I have worked with BFC for many years, and most recently on some rare works by Elgar. The fine performances they gave were a wonderful example of the musicality and commitment which have been a hallmark of their work during the past five decades.” Their CD Ecce sacerdos magnus is available on the SOMM Recording label.

The programme includes works by Elgar, Parry, Handel’s choral masterpiece Zadoc the Priest and Shostakovich’s Festive Overture. For more details see:
