John Bradbury John Bradbury, Leader of the Brighton Philharmonic Orchestra, was born in Manchester. As a young violinist he was awarded a music scholarship to Kings School, Canterbury and later to Chethams School of Music, Manchester. He was a Junior Exhibitioner at the Royal Manchester College of Music where he studied with Endre Wolf, later becoming a full-time student at the College studying with Manoug Parikian, Georgy Pauk and Alexandre Moskowsky of the Hungarian String Quartet. Within a year of leaving College he was appointed Leader of the BBC Midland Light Orchestra which was then conducted by Gilbert Vinter. During this time he embarked upon the first of many broadcast recitals with his wife, the pianist Eira West, and also performed a wide range of solos with the orchestra. In 1970 he was awarded Fellowship of the Royal Manchester College of Music soon after his appointment as Leader of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. He held this post for eight years, combining duo, trio and quartet recitals with numerous concerto and solo performances. In 1978 his appointment as Leader of the BBC Concert Orchestra brought him to London where his freelance schedule combines television and studio recording work with orchestral and solo appearances. In 2001 he was appointed Leader of the orchestra for the long-running musical Les Miserables. Besides regular appearances as Leader of the Brighton Philharmonic Orchestra, he has directed a number of concerts and performed a wide range of solo works including Dvorak's Nocturne, Vivaldi's The Four Seasons, Vaughan Williams' The Lark Ascending and Chausson's Poéme. |
