An audience of over 1200 packed out Brighton Dome on a rainy Sunday afternoon for our spectacular Winter Solstice concert, featuring a programme of Arvo Pärt and Sibelius' Symphony no. 2 in D major. We welcomed guest conductor Sian Edwards, with Joanna MacGregor on piano and leader Ruth Rogers taking centre stage for Pärt's Spiegel im Spiegel. Acclaimed composer Errollyn Wallen released her new book Becoming a Composer this month, published by Faber. Wallen, whose work Mighty River we will be performing in March, describes how she felt at the start of her career: 'Nothing about me fitted the picture of a composer. In three video shorts, Music Director Joanna MacGregor chats to internationally acclaimed jazz saxophonist Andy Sheppard, ahead of the Moondog: Sidewalk Dances concert. Joanna and Andy have collaborated on many projects, including recording their best-selling album Deep River, and many peformances of Joanna's 12-movement suite inspired by the music of street performer Moondog.
