| These forums are being spoiled by frequent inappropriate postings. A different forum to which I subscribe only permits unscreened postings from full registered members of the society (ie. in BPO's case "Friends"). Other postings are not allowed to be shown until approved by a real person. I realise this is an extra drag on the forum moderator, but you might consider it worthwhile exploring this option. |

Although the controls in place to prevent inappropriate postings have gradually been increased, the number received over the past couple of weeks has been enormous. These have been deleted as rapidly as possible, but since many originate from other timezones (notably Russia and the USA), delays have occurred.
Unfortunately the software these messageboards uses does not permit pre-screening of posts, and the whole purpose behind the BPO's messageboards is to be an open and inclusive forum, so limiting posts to Friends of the Philharmonic would be self-defeating (n.b. there are separate thread for Friends should they wish to use it, which requires membership of the 'Friends' usergroup).
However, from 15 February new users' accounts will not be activated until a moderator has verified their email address. (This process was previously automated; this eliminated inappropriate postings made automatically by malicious software, but not those made with human input).
It is hoped that this process will eliminate inappropriate postings altogether, but please be assured that the issue is being monitored and addressed. _________________ Ivan Rockey
