Third year Sussex University Music student Gemma Seymour has been undertaking a placement with the Brighton Phil this Spring as she explores the hypothesis: “Partnerships with schools and local organizations, such as orchestras, have a positive effect on encouraging music education in schools” for her final project.
Gemma has been assisting with the orchestra’s Education Project whilst also exploring ways to interest and engage young people in classical music.
She attended five of the eight interactive workshops given by our musicians in local primary schools in February and March as an observer, and re-designed the evaluation form that teachers were asked to complete after each event. She will be analysing their responses as part of her project.
She was also one of the team of volunteers who helped ensure the Open Rehearsal for Children on Sun 25 March ran smoothly.
