An appreciative audience attended BHPS Chairman Nicolas Chisholm‘s illustrated talk on the history of the orchestra at Brighton Unitarian Church on Saturday 14 October.
The talk traced the history of the orchestra from its earliest incarnation in May 1925 (as the Symphonic String Players) through to the present day, accompanied by images and music, and there was the opportunity for questions at the end.
Refreshments were served after the talk when audience members (all but two being Friends of the Phil) were able to sit and chat with each other over a cup of tea and some home-made cake.
Nicolas is very happy to repeat the talk to any interested groups (he has already presented it to the Burgess Hill Park Wives Club and has had requests from groups in Henfield and Kingston).
He also gives talks about Yehudi Menuhin, and the Yehudi Menuhin School, where he was Headmaster for 22 years. If you have a group who would be interested in him coming to speak please contact him by email at: firstname.lastname@example.org.
He very kindly donates his speaking fee to the Philharmonic Society.
