THE BEETHOVEN SYMPHONIES: I - IV

Sunday 28 October 2007 2.45pm
Brighton Dome Concert Hall

Haydn
Symphony No.1 in D

Mozart
Piano Concerto No.20 in D minor, K466

Beethoven
Symphony No.4 in B flat

Daniel Capps conductor
Andrew Brownell piano

The BPO’s voyage through more than a century of symphonies begins right at the beginning, with the Symphony No.1 by the first and most prodigious of the great symphonists.

Guest conductor Daniel Capps is joined by the second prizewinner from the 2006 Leeds International Piano Competition for Mozart’s emotionally turbulent D minor concerto, a work whose tempestuous unease is pierced by moments of sublime beauty.

The BPO’s series of Beethoven Symphonies begins with his fourth which, despite its seemingly intense and serious beginning, develops into a work full of mischief and surprises.
