Elgar
Enigma Variations

Barry Wordsworth conductor
Sarah Williamson clarinet

Elgar paints touching musical portraits of his family and friends in his much-loved 'Enigma' Variations and the Introduction and Allegro combines a solo string quartet with the full orchestral strings to virtuosic effect.

Two of Elgar's Scandinavian contemporaries provide a stylish clarinet concerto (performed by the winner of the woodwind prize in the 2002 BBC Young Musician of the Year) and a symphonic poem to accompany a patriotic pageant.
