Prokofiev
Lieutenant Kije Suite

Shostakovich
Piano Concerto No.2

Rimsky-Korsakov
Scheherazade*

Barry Wordsworth conductor
Chiao-Ying Chang piano
John Bradbury violin*

This colourful all-Russian concert brings to life an exotic fairy-tale Princess, storyeller of 'The 1,001 Nights', and an imaginary soldier from an early Soviet film - including the celebrated Troika ('sleigh ride').

Shostakovich's most light-hearted concerto is played by one of the 2003 Leeds International Piano Competition Finalists making a return visit to the BPO after an outstanding performance of Shostakovich's first concerto in 2005.
