SUNDAY 21 March 2010 2.45pm Glinka Overture Russlan and Ludmilla [15'] Maxwell Davis An Orkney Wedding with Sunrise [13'] Dukas Sorcerer's Apprentice [12'] Johnathan Dove Run to the edge [12'] Audience Choice A work selected by this season's audience [10-15'] Tchaikovsky Overture 1812 [16'] The season begun with a programme of Russian melodies and ends in the same vein but perhaps just a little louder. Glinka based his opera Russian and Ludmilla on a charming by satirical fairy tale by Pushkin. Orkney Wedding with Sunrise is a musical depiction of a boozy and jubilant party of the Isle of Hoy. Dukas invokes the ultimate punishment on a lazy apprentice based on the poem by Goethe and the season comes to a thundering climax in the most famous of overtures.
