Symphony No 9 in D minor (Choral) [65']

At the culmination of our series of Beethoven symphonies, we reach the ultimate pinnacle of the Choral Symphony written in 1824. The last completed symphony of Beethoven and of grand scope, the Ode to Joy, setting a poem by Friedrich Schiller, is one of the best known works of the classical repertoire. Twenty years ago it played a significant role in re-unification when arranged by Herbert von Karajan as the Anthem of Europe. Notoriously difficult to programme, the Choral Symphony appears here with the middle-period works Egmont of 1810 and the Romance in F of 1802.
