Rossini
Overture The Thieving Magpie [10']
Beethoven
Symphony No 8 in F [26']
Brahms
Concerto for violin and cello in A minor [32']

We continue our five year series of Beethoven Symphonies with the penultimate eighth - a lyrical melodic work which looks forward to the compositions of the romantic period. Rafal, BBC Young Musician of the Year in 1996 and Thomas BBC Young Musician of the Year String finalist 1992 met while studying at Yehudi Menuhin School, before both went to Austria to continue their studies with Gerhard Schulz and Heinrich Schiff respectively. They appear in Brahms last orchestral work the beautiful, tuneful and perhaps neglected Double Concerto.

Sponsored by the Friends of Brighton Philharmonic Orchestra.
