The first music workshops of this year’s Education Project took place on Friday 23 February when the Brighton Phil’s Principal Percussionist Donna-Maria Landowski visited Stanford Infants School.
She ran two interactive sessions back to back for 60 x Year 2 pupils, introducing them to the instruments she plays, inviting them up to have a go themselves, and telling them about the other instruments in the orchestra and how they all work together.
Louisa Damant, the schools’ music co-ordinator, wrote to thank the orchestra:
“Thanks so much for organising the workshop, the children LOVED it! Donna Maria’s workshop is the perfect one for my Year 2 children as it is so accessible and uses instruments that they are familiar with. She was excellent with the children and made both sessions really fun, engaging and memorable. Many thanks again and we look forward to seeing you at the Open Rehearsal on Sunday 25th!”
A further seven workshops will be taking place in local schools this term, culminating in the Free Open Rehearsal for Children at Brighton Dome Concert Hall on Sunday 25 March from 10.15-11am.
Places for the rehearsal are free of charge but must be booked in advance via Brighton Dome Ticket Office, in person, by telephone (01273) 709709 or online at: https://brightondome.org/event/17203/brighton_philharmonic_orchestra_open_rehearsal_for_children/
