Conductor Laureate Barry Wordsworth will open the Brighton Phil’s new season at 2.45pm on Sunday 14 October 2018 in Brighton Dome with Brighton Festival Chorus (currently celebrating its 50th anniversary year).
They will be performing a programme of orchestral and choral works, including many by Elgar, some of which they recently recorded together for SOMM Recordings – “Ecce sacerdos magnus” – with the BBC Concert Orchestra. The CD is available from all good record stores and well-known online retailers.
“I have worked with BFC for many years, and most recently on some rare works by Elgar. The fine performances they gave were a wonderful example of the musicality and commitment which have been a hallmark of their work during the past five decades.” Barry Wordsworth
The concert will also include Elgar’s Cockaigne Overture, Shostakovitch’s Festive Overture Op.96 and Parry’s From Death to Life (which was a 1914 Brighton Festival Commission).
