Barry Wordsworth looks forward to Sunday

Conductor Laureate Barry Wordsworth takes charge of the first concert of the Brighton Phil’s new season at Brighton Dome on Sunday saying:

“What a glorious start to the season. Two masterpieces of German Symphonic structure, both sharing glorious sunlight conclusions. Genoveva is an exciting discovery as it is not often played. As the beginning to his opera, it is really more of a symphonic tone poem than the title would suggest. Glorious orchestration and mastery of shape and theatrical drama, it will put us in the right mood for the Great symphony which will end this programme. In between a very different masterpiece also showing wonderful theatrical verve coupled with a mastery of symphonic structure. I am thrilled to welcome Alexandra Dariescu to Brighton to play Tchaikovsky’s first Piano Concerto.”

Principal Cellist Peter Adams is particularly looking forward to this concert, saying: “I love the look of this year’s concert series and am hugely looking forward to the first concert…

The Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto is always great fun to play but Brahms Three is one of my all time favourites. From the first dramatic opening the symphony captures both players, and hopefully, audience. Barry will do this piece great justice, I’m sure of that.”captures both players and, hopefully, audience.
